In March 2026, Fawnie came to our facility critically ill and dropped off her piglets for us to care for them. Then, after spending a horrific night spitting up blood and writhing in painful spasms, she left and did not return. Assuming she was deceased, we never expected to see her again. But on Sunday night, 26 July, 2026, we were surprised to see a gaunt but very much alive (and pregnant) Fawnie visiting one of our feeders. She must have survived her bout with brucellosis and spent spent the last four months recovering. Although we know she is in pain from the disease and being pregnant is taking up a lot of her energy, we are happy to see her. We are hoping the testing and permitting of the oral vaccines proceeds quickly so we can get Fawnie and the other pigs the much needed help with the disease and with contraception.
