Is Otter Creek a real place?

·

Yes. The creek is real. The otter is real. The name of the creek is not officially “Otter Creek” but is a reference to the creek’s inhabitants. The name we gave the otter that frequents our river, creek and Pig Pond is Mr. Otter Creek. See his story here.

We are located in the northern Gulf Coast of Florida in a small town called Steinhatchee. Steinhatchee is known for its fishing, hunting, and especially its scallop season every fall. Steinhatchee is about 2 hours south of Tallahassee with Perry, Cross City, Fanning Springs, Old Town, Salem, Jena and Chiefland being some of the neighboring communities. People may remember Steinhatchee as the site of three hurricane landings in 2023 (Idalia) and 2024 (Debby and Helene). Our facility suffered a lot of tree damage and one of our vehicles was destroyed by a falling tree. However, our main building was spared the flood waters because we are up on 9 foot stilts and sitting well above the flood plain.
