Why do you give the feral hogs dog treats?

Over the years we have tried many different methods of providing the oral vaccines and any other treatment materials to the pigs. Because our vaccines are oral, it was key to find a food product that the pigs would enjoy and readily consume. The pigs have shown a definite love for peanuts, bread items, cookies and especially dog treats. Dog treats turned out to be the best option for storage and distribution. They also are hard and crunchy, which tends to prepare the pig’s mouth, throat and insides to accept the vaccine more readily. The dog treats are porous and soak up the vaccines more readily. The dog treats are less likely to be eaten by non-target animals like birds and squirrels.
